Plant Love

I love house plants.

I’m one of those crazy people with about 30 house plants and an eye out for more. I have a sweatshirt that says “Crazy Plant Lady” and it’s totally accurate. I can barely walk in a store that sells house plants and not buy one. It’s almost physically impossible.

I keep a spreadsheet (yes, a spreadsheet) listing my plants and their water, light, and fertilizing needs. Plus there is a “notes” column for what I learn from my own experience and what I learn from watching YouTube videos, following plant people on IG, and my local houseplant FB group.

They’ve basically become my main decorating choice. Need something for a buffet? Plants. Need something tall in the corner? Plant. Need something to fill in that shelf? Plant(s). They work for EVERYTHING!

I’m thankful my husband accepts my crazy plant lady status and even surprises me with new plants from work sometimes. He knows me so well.

Here is a small sampling of some of my beauties.

Last summer when my husband and I were in Barbados we were intrigued by all of the awesome tropical plants on the Sandals property. Our favorite bartender told us about Mark the head horticulturalist. On our last day there we met him and he gave us a private tour! I was geeking out so bad! He let me ask him a million questions and I passed all of his little “tests”. It was one of my favorite parts of our trip! (Nerd alert).

Honestly, I almost forgot to write today and my friend just texted me this post about doctors prescribing plants for people with depression and/or anxiety, which then sparked this idea.

Are you a plant person? What is your favorite?

  1. Your pictures show you are a great plant mama! They look so healthy and well-tended. Glad you remembered to write. I was struck by your first commenter’s “Mama Jade.” How old is your oldest houseplant?
The details of your spreadsheet and geeking out with the resort gardener are great 🙂

    1. I try. There are a few on the struggle bus, but I kind of love the research and care I have to put into trying to revive them. It’s like a mystery! 🙂

Yeah, Darin with that old plant is too cool! My oldest is only 2 years old. I’m new to this life!

  2. We added onto our home four years and with it, more space for plants! 🙂

It’s my greenhouse for starting seeds to be planted in my garden. It’s a place were “Mama Jade”, our 60 year old jade plant is able to just sit and be happy. But most of all, it’s bright and sunny for them too! 🙂

Thanks for sharing with us today. While I have no spreadsheet, I enjoy your passion! 🙂

      1. That’s one of the reasons I grabbed on to it! 60 years old?? How cool!! We have dozens of pieces that have been transplanted and given out to friends and family. She’s a hardy plant and we’ll keep her around! ❤❤
