Fresh Loaf of Bread

I recently read Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga. It was a great read. I love reading about other cultures, and this book puts the reader in the mind of a young Syrian girl trying to fit in America. I have read a lot of great books lately, and one thing I love about my Kindle is that I can collect all of my favorite quotes in one place. I thought I’d share one and why I liked it so much.

There is an Arabic proverb that says: She makes you feel like a loaf of freshly baked bread. It is said about the nicest kindest people. The type of people who help you rise.

How beautiful is that?

I love the saying, I love the image of the bread (and just bread in general), I love everything about it.

As I read this quote, it made me want to reach out to my freshly baked bread friends. The people I can turn to when I have ideas I need help developing. The ones who say “do it!” when I’m thinking about doing something new and scary. My friends who lift me up when I’m feeling down.

I’m happy to have a lot of freshly baked bread friends. I can only hope that I, too, am someone’s freshly baked bread loaf.
